Crescent School recognizes the value to the School and to the health and well-being of employees, by providing employees with the opportunity to have time away from the workplace to rest and pursue personal interests (personal matters, religious observance, family events) and activities. The School will therefore ensure that employees have the opportunity and are required to take time away from work to promote their health and well-being.

Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that their employees take their annual vacation entitlement. Normally vacation should be taken after the end of the academic year, however, vacation days may be taken as earned subject to supervisory approval and the operational requirements of the department. An employee may carry over up to five days of vacation credits beyond their annual entitlement with the approval in advance of their Supervisor in consultation with People and Culture and Finance. Any additional vacation day entitlements may not be carried over from year to year except as may be required by the ESA. Employees may take vacation in full or half-days only.
Vacation credits continue to be earned during all periods of leave with pay. During periods of unpaid leave for pregnancy and parental leave, (unpaid) vacation credits will continue to accrue. Vacation credits are not earned during other periods of unpaid leave unless otherwise required by the ESA; however, length of service continues to amass.
Upon termination, accrued and unused vacation credits will be paid out in a lump sum.
Seasonal employees have a contract that includes vacation pay in their salary. After three years of service, such employees will accrue the equivalent of one week’s (pro-rated) vacation to be taken during the school year, in addition to vacation time during school breaks in accordance with the School Calendar. After 10 years of service, such employees will accrue the equivalent of two weeks’ (pro-rated) vacation to be taken during the School year, in addition to vacation time during school breaks in accordance with the School Calendar. All employees will be provided with at least their minimum vacation entitlements pursuant to the ESA.
