1.3 Police Reference Check

Last updated: August 2021

All individuals who will exercise a position of authority or trust with respect to students will require a police reference check including a vulnerable sector search. Due to the nature of the School’s business, this will generally include all individuals who come into regular contact with students. This includes full-time, part-time, sessional, contract, casual employees, volunteers and consultants.

Prior to the commencement of employment, the employee must provide the School with an original copy of a current police reference check which includes a vulnerable sector search. If the police reference check has not been processed prior to the commencement date of employment, the employee will be required to sign an Interim Offence Declaration and provide the School with a valid police reference check in a timely manner. Depending on the employee’s job duties, a failure to provide an acceptable police reference check prior to the commencement date of their employment may result in the delay of the start of their employment or the invalidation of their employment contract.

All employees are required to report immediately to the School if there has been a change to their record of offences as described above. Additionally, each year employees will be asked to sign an Annual Offence Declaration form which self-declares that there continue to be no records of offences as described above.

The School considers continuous employee Vulnerable Sector Search police checks valid for a period of five (5) years and occasional employee Vulnerable Sector Search police checks valid for a period of three (3) years. All employees are required to submit a new and valid Vulnerable Sector Search police check prior to expiry.
