1.6 Technological Devices

The use of technological devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptop computers, and others may be necessary for an employee to effectively carry out their departmental responsibilities.

Computers

The School provides a laptop computer to all faculty members. A few administrative departments have laptops for employee use.

Cell Phone Policy

As the world of work continues to evolve, cell phones have become more ubiquitous in all working environments. The School will provide a cell phone stipend for Executive team members and select roles that require a cell phone as a necessary component of the job.

The School will own and maintain shared cell phones for the duty teams within the Facilities, Wellness Centre, and IT Department. The School also has a limited number of devices that employees may sign out to use during School activities such as school trips and athletic events. The School will continue to offer a reimbursement for work-related long-distance calls made from an employee’s personal cell phone and roaming charges while on school trips or business.

The Headmaster has discretion in terms of how this policy is administered.


Program Details

Staff-Owned Phones

  • The School will provide a stipend for Executive Team members and staff* required to regularly use cell phones as a necessary component of their role and should have financial support for their cell phone use. The stipend amount is currently $75.00 per month.
  • The School will provide an allowance for all members of the Executive Team, or anyone else deemed appropriate, for a maximum of $800** every 3 years to replace the cell phone hardware. There would be a reimbursement based on a receipt provided, not just a cash amount provided directly to the cell phone user.
  • The School will continue to reimburse for reasonable roaming charges while on school-related trips.

School-Owned Phones

  • The School will own and maintain phones for the duty teams for the Facilities, Wellness Centre and IT Department.
  • The School will own and maintain phones to be used as WiFi hotspots for coaches and travelling staff as well as for Outreach trip use.
  • All School-owned phones will only have apps on them that are approved and installed by the IT Department and are owned by the School.
*Staff defined as Executive Team, Director/Assistant Head and above, 24/7 on call, staff with limited dedicated IT tools provided by the School.
