1.9 Tuition Reimbursement

Updated: December 2016

Crescent School strongly encourages the professional growth of its employees and supports employees who wish to take courses for reasons of professional development. Under this policy, employees may apply for tuition reimbursement to pursue professional degrees or programs at recognized academic institutions. For the purpose of this policy, tuition reimbursement refers to completing advanced degrees and professional designations (e.g. Master’s, Ph.D., CPA etc.), delivered by a recognized university, college or professional institution. Once approval has been granted, the School may reimburse tuition fees, up to an approved amount per fiscal year. The tuition reimbursement agreement will be reviewed on an annual basis and may require a new request to be submitted.

In order to apply for tuition reimbursement an employee must meet the following criteria:
  • The employee is employed on a full-time basis and has completed at least two years of full-time employment
  • The course does not interfere with the employee’s normal work and responsibilities if they are completing a part-time course of study
  • The course is related to the employee’s role
Reimbursement will be provided upon satisfactory proof of successful completion (i.e. transcripts) and related institutional receipts up to an approved amount per fiscal year. The reimbursement will not include travel costs, materials or any benefit-related fees. Employees approved for a leave of absence to complete studies will be reimbursed upon return to work.

If an employee has received tuition reimbursement under this policy, and voluntarily leaves Crescent School’s employment within 24 months of individual course completion, they will be required to repay 100% of the funds reimbursed.

Procedure:

An employee who wishes to apply for tuition reimbursement to take a course for reasons of professional development should take the following steps:
  • Discuss the details with the appropriate supervisor prior to enrolling
  • Complete the application in the Green Room. The request will be reviewed by the Supervisor, Headmaster and People and Culture
  • Once approved, the employee must sign a Tuition Repayment Agreement
  • As courses are completed the employee may apply through People & Culture Department for reimbursement by providing proof of completion and corresponding invoices or receipts.
The Headmaster has discretion in terms of how this policy is administered.
