For families who will be new to Crescent School in September 2019, here is information you’ll need before the school year begins. (This section will be updated as new information is confirmed.)

Get Involved
There are  many opportunities for parents to get involved, and volunteering for the Crescent Parent Association (CPA) is a great way for new parents to get to know other families. Click here to learn more about the CPA.

Mark Your Calendar
  • Thursday, August 29 – Orientation for Grades 7-12 on Thursday, August 29
    Upper School Orientation starts at 9 a.m. and parents can pick their boys up at 1:15 p.m. Lunch will be included.
    Middle School Orientation starts at 10 a.m. and parents can pick up their boys at 12:15 p.m. Lunch will be included.
  • Tuesday, September 3 – First Day of School
  • Tuesday, September 17 - Crescent School Town Hall
2019/2020 Statutory and School Holidays – Crescent School has a very generous holiday schedule. We ask that parents plan their vacation time to maximize their sons’ attendance in class.

Athletics overnight & weekend trips – A list of important dates for sports teams will be shared before September. Keep these dates in mind if your son plans to try out for Crescent sports teams. Team members should consider these dates to be mandatory commitments.

Uniform Fittings & Purchases

If your son has not been fitted for his Crescent uniform, please book a uniform fitting appointment at the Coyote's Den, Crescent's on-campus store, before June 7.

The Coyote's Den is closed for the summer from June 10 to August 20.

Back-to-School Shopping Days:
  • Tuesday, August 20 & Wednesday, August 21: 9 a.m. to noon
  • Tuesday August 27 to Thursday, August 29: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(During Back-to-School Shopping Days the Den only accepts cash, debit and credit cards (no Amex). Sundry payment is not accepted.)

First Week of School:
  • Tuesday, September 3 to Thursday, September 5: 8 to 9 a.m., then 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 6: 8 to 9 a.m., then 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Regular hours starting September 9th:
  • Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Friday: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Successful Start Programs (August 19-23, 2019)
For boys who will be starting Grades 3, 7 and 9 at Crescent, we offer optional summer programs designed to boost math and literacy skills, so students can enjoy a smooth academic transition in September. The programs are offered in the mornings of the week of August 19 to 23. Visit our Successful Start Programs webpage to learn more and register.

Student Services - IEP Support
If your son has an IEP, contact Ms. Gina Kay of Crescent Student Services (gkay@crescentschool.org) ensure his supports are continued.

Health & Wellbeing
If your son has allergies, special health needs or dietary requirements, contact the Registered Nurses in the Crescent Wellness Centre at 416-449-2556 ext. 252 or nurse@crescentschool.org.

All students with asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and/or at risk of anaphylaxis are required to have a Plan of Care form on file at the beginning of each school year. If your son has one of these condition and you did not receive his Plan of Care Form, please contact the Crescent Wellness Centre at 416-449-2556 ext. 252 or nurse@crescentschool.org.

Instrument Rentals for Grade 6-12 Music Classes
Parents of students who will be in Grades 6-12 next year and enrolled in a curricular instrumental music course must submit an Instrument Rental Request form. The form can be accessed from the yellow forms notification banner that you see when you log into the Green Room. Please submit this form no later than August 12. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Vince Volpe, Middle School Music Teacher (vvolpe@crescentschool.org).

Private Music Lessons: Registration Now Open
Private music lessons are offered at Crescent School on woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments, voice, theory, piano and electronic music production. Taught by qualified instructors during the school day, they are an excellent complement to your son’s in-class music instruction. Private music lessons are particularly encouraged for boys who are new to a musical instrument. Grades 3-8 School Supplies
For your convenience, we have assembled the school supplies packages that boys in Grades 3-8 will need next year. (Click here to see the lists of supplies for each grade.) The cost will be billed to your son’s sundry account in September.
  • Lower School boys will receive their supplies from their teachers as needed during the year. (Please note that Lower School workbooks and texts will be billed separately.)
  • Middle School boys will receive all their supplies in the first week of school. They are responsible for storing them safely and ensuring they bring what they need for class throughout the year.

Crescent Buddy System (Upper School)
New boys who are entering Grade 9 have been matched with current Crescent students in the same grade, who will be their “buddies” to help them adjust to their new school. Keep your eyes out for a welcome email in the coming weeks. Buddies will be introduced at the Upper School Orientation on August 29. If you have any questions about what to expect in Grade 9, contact Ms. Trish Cislak, Head of Grade 9 (tcislak@crescentschool.org).

Upper School Textbook Information
All Upper School students are required to purchase textbooks. Click here for the list of textbooks for 2019/2020.

For your convenience, Crescent School offers online textbook purchases through Canadian School Book Exchange (CSBE). You may order textbooks from other sources if you prefer.

Click here for the Canadian School Book Exchange website. Books ordered through CSBE must be purchased by credit card and will be delivered to your home address at the end of August.

Upper School Outreach Trips: Applications Now Open
Next year Crescent is offering Outreach trips to Moose Factory, South Africa, Tanzania, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Iceland and the American South. These optional trips give students the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, develop personal leadership skills, and reflect on the kind of men they want to become. Students in Grades 10 - 12 next year are eligible for all trips. Next year's Grade 9 students are eligible for the Moose Factory and Iceland trips. The application form is found under the "Links" header on the Outreach resource post in the Green Room. Spaces are limited, so please sign up early to be considered for a spot.
