Crescent Welcomes the Year of the Snake

Gong hei fat choy! Crescent marked the Lunar New Year on January 30. At the Lower and Middle School assembly, students were dazzled by a bright and colourful lion dance. The lions were lured by leafy green vegetables held out on tall poles by two Crescent boys. In their grand finale, the lions grabbed the vegetables, chewed them up and dramatically flung them out at the cheering audience. The performance, from Toronto’s Master Tang, also included kung fu demonstrations.

As part of our ongoing series of celebratory meals showcasing the cultural diversity of our community, our food service partners, SAGE, prepared a special Lunar New Year meal. It featured egg drop soup, char siu chicken and pork, dumplings, shrimp Yeung Chow fried rice, garlic-ginger bok choy, chow mein noodles, and custard-filled steamed buns for dessert. The temporary dining hall was decorated with lanterns for the occasion.
